🦜 Why We Are Foster-Based
Safe Perch Exotic Avian Rescue, Inc. is a foster-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible rehoming of exotic companion birds. We are committed to ethical rescue practices that prioritize animal welfare, thoughtful placement, and long-term success for both birds and adopters.
Our rescue operates through a carefully managed network of approved foster homes, allowing each bird to receive individualized, species-appropriate care in a home environment. This foster-based model supports responsible biosecurity by enabling proper quarantine and health observation while minimizing the risk of disease transmission. It also allows us to better understand each bird’s unique personality, medical needs, and behavioral tendencies.
Equally important, fostering provides birds with the opportunity to build trust, develop healthy routines, and receive consistent, individualized attention — all essential components of adoption readiness. In addition to individualized care, we prioritize education and lifelong support for adopters, so birds transition into forever homes with the best possible foundation for long-term well-being.
Safe Perch also supports bird guardians facing difficult rehoming decisions by offering compassionate guidance, education, and transparent processes designed to reduce stress and promote positive outcomes. We do not operate a public intake facility; all rescue activities are coordinated through approved foster placements and collaborative partnerships.
Our mission is rooted in compassion, responsibility, and respect for the complex needs of exotic companion birds — because every bird deserves a safe perch and a future built on understanding, stability, and care.
Meet Our Current Residents
in addition to individualized foster care, Safe Perch prioritizes education and lifelong support for adopters, helping birds transition into forever homes with the best possible foundation for long-term well-being and informed ownership.

Bo - B&G Macaw
Meet Bo
Bo is our handsome 33-year-old Blue and Gold Macaw with a big personality and an even bigger heart. One of his favorite things is meeting new people, and he's always happy to step up onto a willing hand to say hello.
If you're carrying a snack, you've already made a friend! Bo loves fresh fruit, but truthfully, he's excited about just about any treat you offer. His enthusiasm for snack time is matched only by his sweet nature.
One of Bo's most endearing tricks is blowing kisses. If you blow him a kiss, don't be surprised if he sends one right back! It's just one of the many ways he charms everyone he meets.
Whether he's enjoying his favorite fruits, showing off his beautiful blue and gold feathers, or greeting visitors with a cheerful step-up and a kiss, Bo is always ready to brighten someone's day.

Rainbow - Scarlett Macaw
Meet Rainbow
Rainbow is our beautiful 24-year-old Scarlet Macaw with a gentle heart and a bright personality. Despite everything he's been through, he remains a sweet, affectionate bird who enjoys spending time with people—especially the ladies! He tolerates the gentlemen... on his own terms.
Rainbow came to us with a history of feather plucking that, according to his previous owner, has been ongoing for about five years. Feather plucking is often a complex behavior, and while there are no guarantees that his feathers will fully grow back, our focus is on helping Rainbow thrive from the inside out.
At our rescue, we've seen incredible progress with other birds who have struggled with feather destructive behaviors. Our approach is centered on enrichment, proper nutrition, and positive experiences. Rainbow's environment is filled with toys and activities to keep his intelligent mind engaged, and he's enjoying a healthy, balanced diet to ensure he's getting the nutrition his body needs.
For us, this journey isn't just about feathers—it's about changing a bird's mindset, building confidence, and giving them the opportunity to enjoy life again.
Rainbow is already showing us what a wonderful companion he can be, and we can't wait to watch him continue to blossom. If you're considering adding Rainbow to your family, know that you may always see evidence of his past, but you'll also be welcoming a resilient, loving macaw who deserves a bright future.
Could that future be with you? ❤️🦜

Meet Birdie — Cockatiel
Birdie is a sweet 10-year-old cockatiel with a gentle heart and a big need for connection. He came to Safe Perch after his previous owner could no longer care for him due to medical reasons. Birdie was deeply loved and was used to being part of daily life, not just a bird sitting in a cage. He was only caged at night and even had a bedtime routine where his person would sing “Up on the Rooftop” before sleep.
Birdie will do best with someone patient, kind, and willing to earn his trust at his pace. He is emotionally attached to his people and needs a home that understands birds are family, not ornaments. With love, patience, and consistency, Birdie has every chance to become a wonderful companion for the right parront.
His surrender application notes that he is approximately 10 years old, had been with his previous owner for 4.5 years, had no reported serious bite history, and “needs to be loved” with patience.

Kiwi — Budgie/Parakeet
Kiwi’s story is quiet, because we don’t know much about where she came from or what her little life looked like before Safe Perch. And honestly, that may be the hardest part.
What we do know is that Kiwi is here now, waiting. Waiting for someone to see her not as “just a little parakeet,” but as a living, feeling soul who deserves safety, patience, and a family of her own. Small birds are so often overlooked, but Kiwi’s heart is not small. Her life matters just as much as any larger parrot’s.
She needs a home soon — not because she is difficult, but because she deserves to finally land somewhere that feels permanent. Somewhere she can wake up each morning knowing she is wanted. Somewhere her little voice, her bright colors, and her gentle presence are seen as gifts.
Kiwi is looking for the kind of person who understands that rescue is not always about knowing the full story. Sometimes it is about stepping in and writing the next chapter.
Kiwi is ready for her forever home. Could it be yours?

Coco and Mango (Bonded)
This sweet bonded pair is the definition of companionship. These two conures are rarely seen apart—whether they’re perched side-by-side, preening one another, or quietly keeping watch together. Their bond provides comfort, confidence, and emotional stability, and for that reason they will be placed together only in a forever home that understands and values bonded birds.
Both are alert, expressive, and deeply social, showing the curious and affectionate personalities conures are known for. They thrive on routine, enrichment, and gentle interaction, and would do best in a home ready to offer patience, consistency, and plenty of together-time.
If you’re looking to welcome not one—but two hearts that beat as one—this pair will reward you with constant companionship and a lifetime of shared moments.

🦜 Meet Moe & Nubs
Moe and Nubs are two more of the cockatiel brothers who recently came into Safe Perch Exotic Avian Rescue from a surrender in Kentucky.
They are part of the little brother crew: Eanie, Meanie, Miney, Moe, and Nubs — with Nubs getting his name because of his little club foot.
Moe is settling in along with his brothers, while Nubs has already stolen our hearts in a special way. Because of his little foot, Nubs may need extra patience, understanding, and long-term care.
At this time, Moe and Nubs will most likely remain permanent residents with Safe Perch, unless the right person comes along and can truly show they understand the level of care, patience, and commitment precious Nubs deserves.
-

🦜 Meet Paco
Paco came into Safe Perch Exotic Avian Rescue along with the cockatiel brothers, and he has already shown us what a special bird he is.
Paco is a Pionus Parrot with a mild-mannered, gentle personality. Like many birds adjusting to a new environment, he may squawk when he gets nervous — but once he realizes he is safe, he settles down and shows his sweet side.
Underneath that first little nervous alarm call is a bird who wants companionship, patience, and understanding. Paco has the makings of an incredible companion for the right person willing to give him time, consistency, and love.
Sometimes the best birds just need someone to look past the nervous moments and see the heart underneath.
-

🦜 Meet Meanie
Meanie, our Grey Cockatiel, who recently came into Safe Perch Exotic Avian Rescue from a surrender in Kentucky.
They are part of a little family of brothers named Eanie, Meanie, Miney, Moe, and Nubs — with Nubs getting his name because of his little club foot.
Their previous owner could no longer care for them, but they did the right thing by making sure these boys had a safe place to go. Surrendering is never easy, but choosing help when an animal needs more than you can give is an act of love.
-

🦜 Meet Rosie 🩶
Rosie may have a sweet name, but don’t let that fool you — Rosie is a male African Grey with a personality big enough to fill the whole room.
This guy is extremely talkative. With our own African Greys, we actually keep a spreadsheet of the words and phrases they say just to see how many we can recognize. With Rosie? We simply can’t keep up. He is an absolute riot and always seems to have something to say.
Rosie does have a mild scissor beak, but it does not stop him from doing what he wants to do. It is not severe, and he continues to eat, play, talk, and interact like the character he is.
He also seems to prefer women, so his ideal home may be with someone who can build that bond patiently and respectfully.
Rosie would make a wonderful companion for someone who understands African Greys and is willing to give him the time, freedom, and enrichment he deserves. He truly thrives when he is allowed time outside of his cage and loves being part of the activity around him.
For the right home, Rosie has the potential to be an incredible companion — funny, smart, vocal, and full of personality.
-

🦜 Meet Miney
Miney is another one of the cockatiel brothers who recently came into Safe Perch Exotic Avian Rescue from a surrender in Kentucky.
He is a handsome Grey Cockatiel and part of the little brother crew: Eanie, Meanie, Miney, Moe, and Nubs — with Nubs getting his name because of his little club foot.
Miney seems to be the quieter one of the bunch. While some birds come in loud and ready to announce themselves, Miney is taking things in a little more softly. He is watching, listening, and settling into this big change at his own pace.
